Hanwha to send a 550 kg communications satellite towards the Moon in 2029
Hanwha Aerospace will develop South Korea’s first orbital transfer vehicle, which is planned to carry a communications satellite from low Earth orbit towards lunar orbit after launch on the eighth Nuri rocket in 2029. The Korea AeroSpace Administration says the vehicle will also deploy a CubeSat into low Earth orbit; Hanwha was selected as lead contractor in June and signed an agreement with the agency in August.
Bottom line — The 2029 mission will test whether Nuri and Hanwha’s transfer vehicle can deliver a 550 kg satellite to lunar transfer orbit.
