Nvidia’s DLSS 5 Model Runs Faster, but Still Cuts Game Performance
Nvidia says its October DLSS 5 update reduces the model’s parameters by 24%, halves execution time and cuts VRAM use by 20%, while maintaining comparable image quality. TechSpot’s tests in NBA 2K27 found the model ran 83% faster at 4K and 94% faster at 1440p on average across RTX 50-series cards, but it still substantially reduced frame rates and retained visual artefacts.
Bottom line — TechSpot found average performance losses fell to 58% at 4K and 39% at 1440p, but image-quality issues remain.

TechSpot measured a 47% frame-rate increase on the RTX 5080 at 4K versus the previous model.
-
On the RTX 5070 Ti, the updated model raised NBA 2K27 above 60 frames per second at 4K for the first time in TechSpot’s test.
-
TechSpot found lighting flicker and halo-like outlines around characters remained; skin could also look darker and shinier at a distance.
-
TechSpot said image quality was broadly similar to the earlier model, though potentially slightly worse in some situations.

The updated model is slated for future DLSS 5 games; TechSpot says an upcoming Hogwarts Legacy update in November will use it.
