ECB clears UniCredit to raise its Commerzbank stake beyond 30%
The European Central Bank has authorised UniCredit to exceed a 30% stake in Commerzbank and increase its holding without an upper limit, according to the Italian bank. UniCredit expects remaining regulatory steps to be completed towards year-end; it says it would then hold about 50% of Commerzbank’s voting rights and be able to take control.
Bottom line — UniCredit expects to hold about 50% of Commerzbank’s voting rights by year-end.
