Meta releases 816-billion-parameter Muse Spark Open to challenge Chinese AI models
Meta has released the weights for Muse Spark Open, an open-weight model it says can match or outperform leading Chinese models on coding, reasoning and agentic tasks. The model has 816 billion parameters, with 42 billion active at a time, and Meta says it can run across two Apple M5 Ultra Mac Studios; developers can also access it through hosted platforms.
Bottom line — Muse Spark Open’s weights are available under Meta’s Muse Model License, which the company says permits free use for many developers but limits some commercial use.
