Serbia’s student-backed list wins projected majority as Vučić concedes defeat
Serbia’s student-backed list is projected to win 139 of 250 parliamentary seats, against 104 for Aleksandar Vučić’s coalition, according to Ipsos and CeSID; the figures are preliminary. Vučić conceded defeat after nearly two years of protests sparked by the 2024 Novi Sad station-canopy collapse, which killed 16 people. The movement has pledged to fight corruption, but has yet to say who would lead a new government.
Bottom line — The projected 139 seats give the Student List a majority; Serbia’s election commission still has to confirm the results.
