Ancient interstellar comet 3I/ATLAS is a deep-freeze relic from before the Solar System
3I/ATLAS, discovered in July 2025 by the ATLAS survey, is only the third confirmed object from another star system. Its orbit has a record eccentricity of 6.14, and chemical analysis shows it formed in extreme cold, possibly twice as old as our Solar System — offering scientists a pristine sample of another planetary system's building blocks.
