Developer builds game NPCs that remember—and spread—what they hear
Developer Yash Gurav built Hearsay, a small 3D village game whose characters remember events and pass rumours through a graph database. In a DEV Community post, Gurav says each villager’s version tracks its confidence and who passed it on, allowing characters to explain how they formed a belief.
Bottom line — Gurav says the rumour-tracing lookup takes about 2 milliseconds.

-
Gurav built Hearsay for the Graph Hacks: Context for AI Agents event, organised by WeMakeDevs and FalkorDB.
-
The graph separates what happened from each character’s rumour, with a chain linking retellings back to the original event.
-
Characters only pass on information to people who trust them and share their location, according to Gurav.
-
Gurav tested 50 scripted conversations with Gemma 3 4B running locally; he reports that none mentioned a villager outside the speaker’s graph context.
-
The village is a demo; Gurav describes the underlying memory engine as reusable for other games.
