Apple brings 18 AI features to China, with Alibaba’s Qwen and Siri still absent
Apple has begun a developer trial of Apple Intelligence in China, two years after its first release elsewhere; public access is planned for December. The initial 18 features include call translation and tools to summarise and proofread messages, while the latest Siri upgrade is excluded. Apple will use Alibaba’s Qwen alongside its own tools, after Chinese regulatory requirements delayed the launch.
Bottom line — More than 110 million iPhones in China can run Apple Intelligence, according to Omdia, but Counterpoint Research says the launch may not give Apple a significant advantage.
